Cairns Day Tours

8 options · from $79 AUD

Cairns day tours split three ways: rainforest, adrenaline and wildlife. The Daintree and Cape Tribulation are a full 11-hour day north; Kuranda is a shorter loop up the range by train and down by cableway. For adrenaline there is white water on the Tully River, bungy and a giant swing in the rainforest north of the city, and tandem skydives over Cairns or onto the sand at Mission Beach.

Most of these include return transfers from Cairns, so you can do them without a car. This page covers land and air days; for the reef, see the snorkelling and Port Douglas pages linked below.

Cairns day tours compared

Lengths include transfers where the tour provides them. Prices are for the tour as listed; extras such as photos or levies are noted on each tour page.

Prices are per person in AUD. Bookings are on request and confirmed within 24 to 48 hours.

Rainforest days: Daintree or Kuranda

The Cape Tribulation Day Tour is the big one: 11 hours taking in Four Mile Beach at Port Douglas, a crocodile cruise timed to the tide, the ferry across the Daintree River, cassowary country, lunch and a swim in a rainforest creek. Park fees are included.

The Kuranda Scenic Railway & Skyrail Day Trip with Cairns Transfers takes about six hours: the historic railway up the range in the morning, free time in Kuranda village, then the Skyrail cableway back down over the rainforest canopy. Food and Kuranda attractions are extra.

Pick Cape Tribulation if you want the wildest rainforest and the beach where it meets the reef. Pick Kuranda for a shorter, gentler day, or the morning after a big night.

Adrenaline and wildlife days

Tully River Rafting is a 12-hour day including transfers, with up to three hours on grade 3 and 4 rapids through World Heritage rainforest. No experience needed; training, gear and a meal afterwards are included, and a river levy is paid on top.

The Bungy Jump + Giant Swing Combo with Media is about two hours: a 50m bungy, then the giant swing, with photos and video of both and return transfers from the Cairns CBD.

For skydiving there are three tandems: up to 15,000ft over Cairns, up to 15,000ft with a beach landing at Mission Beach, weather permitting, and up to 14,000ft with an optional beach landing. All three include Cairns transfers; photos and video are extra. Our Cairns skydiving page compares them in detail.

Breakfast with the Koalas is the gentle option: a cooked breakfast at a wildlife park on the road to Port Douglas while a koala and its keeper do the rounds, with park entry, a lagoon cruise and the day's wildlife shows included. Transfers are not included, and it cannot be booked on the day, so allow time for confirmation.

When to go and how to fit them in

May to October is the dry season: cooler, less rain and the most reliable weather for skydives and the Daintree. November to April is hot and wet, with heavy downpours and box jellyfish season on the coast; tours still run, but keep a spare day for anything weather-dependent.

Do not stack the long days. Rafting and Cape Tribulation are each a full day, so give them their own dates. Kuranda, the bungy and the koala breakfast fit around other plans. Do not skydive within 24 hours of scuba diving.

Day tours: your questions

Can you do Kuranda and Cape Tribulation in one day from Cairns?

No. Cape Tribulation is an 11-hour day on its own and Kuranda takes about six hours. Book them on separate days.

Do Cairns day tours include hotel pickup?

Most do. Kuranda, Tully rafting, the bungy combo and all three skydives include return transfers from Cairns. Breakfast with the Koalas does not. Pickup points are listed on each tour page.

Is Tully River rafting suitable for beginners?

Yes. No experience is needed, and training and all gear are included. The rapids are grade 3 and 4 and you paddle as a crew, so you need reasonable fitness and to be comfortable in water.

What is the best Cairns day tour if I only have one day?

For rainforest, Cape Tribulation and the Daintree. For adrenaline, Tully rafting. If you have not done the reef yet, that should probably come first; see our Great Barrier Reef snorkelling day trips page.
