K'gari 3-Day Tour from Rainbow Beach with Hostel Nights: Packages and Prices (2026)

The five packages for the K'gari 3-Day Adventure from Rainbow Beach in 2026: tour only, or with one to three hostel nights in Rainbow Beach, what each costs, and what every package includes.

The Wanderlust crew · Updated · 5 min read

Short answer: the K’gari (Fraser Island) 3-Day Adventure from Rainbow Beach costs $599 per person for the tour on its own, $639 with a dorm night in Rainbow Beach the night before, $679 with a night before and a night after, and $719 with three nights in Rainbow Beach. Every package includes the 3-day 4WD tag-along, two nights at a permanent campsite with hot showers, all main meals, permits and the barge. The hostel nights are at the tour’s own hostel in Rainbow Beach.

Prices are per person in AUD, from our current listings (October 2026), and can change. Pick your package above the calendar on the tour page; it shows the exact price before you pay.

The five packages

PackageNights in Rainbow BeachPrice per person
Tour only0$599
Tour + 1 night before1$639
Tour + 1 night before + 1 after2$679
Tour + 2 nights before + 1 after3$719
Tour + 1 night before + 2 after3$719

The two three-night packages cost the same; the difference is whether the spare night falls before the tour or after it.

What each hostel night costs

Every step up the table adds one dorm night and the same amount each time. The per-night cost is the gap between tour only ($599) and tour plus one night before ($639); the second night adds the same again ($679), and so does the third ($719).

The nights are dorm beds at the tour’s own hostel in Rainbow Beach, about a 30-second walk from the bus stop and right across the road from the tour entrance.

Why the night before matters

The tour leaves Rainbow Beach at 7am on day one, so unless you are already in town you need a bed the night before. The tour-plus-one-night package exists for exactly that. Day three ends back in Rainbow Beach between about 1pm and 5:30pm depending on the tides, so a night after is for anyone who does not want to board a coach straight off the barge. Two nights after gives you a full free day in Rainbow Beach.

What every package includes

  • The 3-day, 2-night guided K’gari tag-along tour
  • 4WD hire with insurance: drive in the convoy, or ride as a passenger
  • Two nights at a permanent campsite with hot showers and flushing toilets
  • Sleeping bag, pillow and mattress, plus firewood
  • All main meals (two breakfasts, three lunches, two dinners) and drinking water
  • National park permits and the barge
  • Free luggage storage in Rainbow Beach
  • Dorm nights in Rainbow Beach on the packages that include them

Not included: alcohol and soft drinks (BYO, no glass) and travel insurance.

How the three days run

Day 1: Rainbow Beach to K’gari. Leave at 7am, cross on the barge from Inskip Point and drive up 75 Mile Beach. Swim at Lake McKenzie and walk the rainforest at Central Station before the first night at camp.

Day 2: North along 75 Mile Beach. A full day on the beach icons: the Maheno shipwreck, the coloured sands of the Pinnacles, a float down Eli Creek and the Champagne Pools. Second night at camp.

Day 3: Lake Wabby to Rainbow Beach. Walk in to Lake Wabby for a last swim, lunch on the beach, then the drive and barge back to Rainbow Beach, arriving between about 1pm and 5:30pm depending on the tides.

The guide sets the order of stops around the tides.

Who it is for, and who drives

The tour is for travellers aged 18 to 35, with a maximum of 31 people. You do not have to drive: it is a tag-along convoy behind a guide vehicle, and everyone who does not drive rides along as a passenger. Drivers must be 21 or over with a full open licence held for at least 12 months, and must bring the original card licence (plus an international licence if yours is not in English).

Bring a small day bag with towel, swimmers, hat, sunscreen, insect repellent, a refillable water bottle and snacks, and a carry-on bag for camp with warm layers, long pants and enclosed shoes. Phone signal on the island is minimal.

Nut and shellfish allergies are catered for: put them in the dietary box at checkout and they go to the guides with your booking. For any other dietary need, ask us before you book and we will check.

How it compares

Rainbow Beach has two other 3-day tag-alongs: the Dingo’s K’gari 3-Day 4WD Tag-Along from $579 (tent camping at an enclosed beach campsite, all meals, 18 to 39s) and the K’gari 3-Day Tag-Along Safari from Noosa or Rainbow Beach from $599 (18 to 35s, a maximum of four vehicles, all main meals except day-one breakfast and day-three dinner). Of the three, this is the one that bundles the Rainbow Beach hostel nights into the price; on the others you book your own bed in town.
