The vibe: venue vs. small boat
Atlantic Clipper is built like a venue. The listing calls it the Whitsundays’ most social boat: a spa on deck, slides, a 6-metre dive platform, music and games after dinner on night one, and a walk-in cold room for your BYO drinks. With up to 54 aboard you will not know everyone by the end, but you will leave with a crowd. If you are solo and want mates fast, that is the pitch. Our guide on making friends travelling solo covers how this works on the road.
PowerPlay is the opposite end of the two-night range. It is capped at 16, which keeps the jacuzzi and the paddleboards uncrowded, and the listing frames it as the trip for people who want the islands “without the roughing-it”. It takes guests from 16, so it is also the one to look at if you are under 18.
Cabins and sleeping
Atlantic Clipper has 21 cabins with two, three or four berths. Day one lists the accommodation as shared (3 to 4 guests) or private (2 guests), all air-conditioned. PowerPlay offers a share single, a share double, a private quad and a private double, with air-conditioning listed for the private cabins. Both give you linen. If a decent private cabin matters more than the party, look at PowerPlay’s private double or at the ensuite boats in Comparatif des bateaux de croisière à la voile aux Whitsundays.
Whitehaven Beach and Hill Inlet
Both include Whitehaven Beach. The wording differs:
- Atlantic Clipper: snorkelling on the fringing reefs on day two, then time on Whitehaven Beach, with beach games with the crew. The Hill Inlet lookout walk happens if conditions allow.
- PowerPlay: day two includes a guided walk to the Hill Inlet lookout and time exploring Whitehaven, with stand-up paddleboards available. Day one adds a first snorkel in the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park and, after dark, underwater blue lights that draw in marine life.
If Hill Inlet is the photo you came for, PowerPlay lists it as a firm part of day two. Atlantic Clipper lists it as conditional. Tide and weather decide both in practice; our Guide de Whitehaven Beach et Hill Inlet explains the timing.
Diving and snorkelling
Atlantic Clipper lists certified and intro scuba diving as an option, plus a 6-metre dive platform. Stinger suits and snorkel gear are included. PowerPlay includes wetsuits, stinger suits, snorkel gear and stand-up paddleboards, and does not list diving.
Ce qui est inclus
Both include all meals and linen. The differences:
- Atlantic Clipper: all meals and snacks with special diets on request, stinger suits, snorkel gear, hot showers. Not included: alcohol (BYO), bottled water, soft drinks, bath towels and beach towels.
- PowerPlay: all meals plus morning and afternoon tea, bath towels, wetsuits, stinger suits, snorkel gear, paddleboards and wifi. Not included: alcohol (BYO), bottled water, soft drinks, beach towels.
Bring a bath towel on Atlantic Clipper and you have levelled the field on the one thing most people forget. A longer breakdown of one boat is in our PowerPlay price and inclusions guide.
